Shall We Meet

Posted by Linda

Koala Bears are cute little animals, but they also can be fierce. I think that what is going on in the United States today is bring out some of the ferocity. It’s also bringing rise to a lot of frustration. I am speaking for myself, but ever since the election, I haven’t felt the same. I may have disagreed with things in this country, but I have always felt pretty safe, like we would work it out. Now, I don’t know at all. Everyday I wake up wondering what new and devastating thing has happened, and much of it is due to the inexperience and volatile way matters are being handled. I fear that we are headed for a totalitarian government and that we can not get along with our allies, much less anyone else. School children in Canada are not being allowed to visit the US.When has this happened?

What can we do to make the changes that we want to and to feel more settled in our lives. I am offering a group meeting via conference call once a week to air our sadness and fear and figure out how we can best impact the future in a positive way. There will be a nominal fee. Please email me at linda.m.harris@gmail.com if interested in joining.

FAMILY-WEEKEND COOKING FOR AN ENTIRE WEEK

By Caroline

So many families struggle with time and time-management at home and at work. Helping people organizing, decorating and simplifying life is one of my passions.

The stress during the working-week with doing so many things for the family including shopping and cooking healthy food can be overwhelming.

1.) Make a fun family-evening or weekend to chose some healthy menu-recipes from cook-books and cooking-magazines and include your children in choosing.

2.) Look for balanced meals. Prepare ahead and cook. I recommend to look for 3 categories: for example: Meals with Pasta, Rice and Potatoes. Cook the portions you need for the weekly menus all at once.

3.) The same for veggies: for example: peas & carrots, broccoli/cauliflower, tomatoes

4.) The same for the meats: Chicken, beef, fish

5.) Wash the salads, prepare  and put in fridge, but no more than 1-3 days

5.) Make a copy  from the 7 menu-recipes for the week

6.) Copy or write the separate ingredients-shopping-lists for the recipe.

4.) File  them together to use another time. With a copy you save time in looking for recipes and writing the shopping list several times!

Use a weekend to cook the meals ahead for the week and make single portions for the evening or per person and freeze. If you write the days on the containers and stack them accordingly you have always the right day on hand when you come  home from work/school. Remember: 3 veggies (can be salads), 2 fruits a day to incorporate to your meals.

The benefits: 1.) No stress to find out what to eat each evening. 2.) No running after work in the store. 3.) Knowing  that your family eats a balanced meal a day.  4.) More time spending together as a family at the dinner table.

A LITTLE TIME AWAY FROM IT ALL

By Caroline

How about a mini-vacation at home every day? It seems like everybody I spoke to has some sort of stress in life and need some time off, time away, or a chance to “chill out” alone. You can take some time off each and every day, you only need to plan it and make some space in your schedule for it. It is essential for your overall well-being. Asking yourself what you like best in vacation, helps you to find the things you like to see, do and have  at home to feel comfortable, happy and relaxed as well.

For me for example I like to see, coming in a hotel is: the nice little touches of having a cute prepared basket prepared with some samples of lotions and shampoos in the bathroom and the towels who are pretty and soft. I like to go swimming in the hotel pool, which is one of the sports I like best to relax.  I love walking and exploring the new area and then go shopping for some kind of small cute things. Looking for gifts for my friends to bring home is another favored thing for me to do. I love great parks, gardens, museums or art galleries. In general nature is the best for me to relax, go back to the hotel take a power nap and get ready for a good dinner with nice ambiance and a good conversation with a great friend.

You can make it a habit to schedule some of your own favored things to see and do in your own home and neighborhood. Sometimes we need to be creative and resourceful to make our daily life more fun, relaxed and exciting . The tourist offices I found, is a good way to get inspired to find new nice places to see and go in your own backyard…..try something new, explore and experiment what you like best to see, do and have and translate it on a smaller scale to live your own mini-vacation daily.

TURN A NEW GOOD BEHAVIOR INTO A HABIT

by Caroline

We are all creatures of habits. To change a bad habit in a new good one, we need to get aware first, visualize the new good behavior we want achieve and we need physically go through the process of acting  it out. The old habit will be automatically replaced if we repeat the new habit every day for 21 days and keep practicing it for another 42 days to form the new habit and replace the old one. Then do the same for another habit you want to change for the better and you will be proud of yourself when you succeed with it. Learning, challenging, growing and pushing myself is a interesting process I won’t miss in my life! How about you?
