We have 2 major categories of thoughts, which help us in different situations on a daily bases…..
1.) The Processing/Analytical Mode
-It stores information (memory)
-It analyzes this data (sorts it, compares it, organize it into beliefs, concepts and processes info like a computer)
2.) The Free-Flowing Mode
– it is stress free
– it is dealing with the unknown, where creative thoughts are needed
– it is natural and allows us to be at peak performance and enjoyment
In our fast-paced world, most of us have learned to live almost exclusively in the process-oriented mode. This mode can cause stress, worry, anxiety, depression and a sense of hurry, which are negative emotions and can lead to mental illness and addictions.
Do this for your mental health: Schedule in your calendar (at least 20-30 min. a day) some “quality down-time” with walks, meditations, prayers and quiet time each day, it will help you to slow down your processing thinking and will shift your thoughts in a free-flowing mode for a while, which is natural and allows you to be at peak performances without getting too tired and stressed.
